Our Nurse Practitioners

Maria Brown, MS, C.P.N.P.
Maria Brown, MS, C.P.N.P. Ms. Brown earned her certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from Albert Einstein college of Medicine in 1980 after completing her nursing studies at Downstate Medical Center and receiving an M.S. from Hunter College. She is board certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and a fellow of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Associates and Practitioners (NAPNAP).

Before coming to Pine Street Pediatrics in 2001,Ms. Brown spent 12 years working with newborns at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Previously, Ms. Brown provided pediatric primary care at North Central Bronx Hospital and Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx. She was "supervisor" of the Foster Care Medical Clinic of the Children's Aid Society with responsibility for 400 children in foster care. She also concomitantly provided pediatric care in her capacity as a P.N.P. Ms. Brown also worked with the New York Children's Health Project at Montefiore Medical Center which provided medical services to the children of families in homeless shelters. Ms. Brown has also been a Clinical Instructor in the Columbia University School of Nursing Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program. A transplant from Manhattan, Ms. Brown enjoys hiking and biking in the Catskills and the Hudson valley. She is also a member of Ars Choralis, a choral society in Woodstock.

M. Scott Owitz, MS, FNP-C
M. Scott Owitz, MS, C.P.N.P.  Scott Owitz has worked his way up through all levels of nursing.  Graduating as an LPN in 1984 (Central School of Practical Nursing), an AASN in 1988 (Dutchess Community College), a BSN in 1990 (SUNY New Paltz) and finally a Masters of Science in Nursing and Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 1993 (Binghamton University).  He obtained National certification in Family Care in 1994.  Scott was also an EMT, and has held most levels of the American Heart Association’s “Life Support”, including Advanced Traumatic Life Support, a second year surgical residency program.  His skill sets include minor surgery and suturing.  He has 14 years experience in Family healthcare including geriatrics as well as pediatrics.  Scott revitalized the Hudson Valley chapter of the Nurse Practitioner Association (NPA), and served as New York State Chairman.  He currently continues with the NPA as secretary and chair of multiple committees.  Scott joined Pine Street Pediatrics in 1995, he recently returned after a near six-year hiatus in Family Healthcare.  Scott, his wife, Kathy, and their two sons are very active in their church, and spend many hours volunteering for various organization and causes.  They enjoy kayak fishing, camping, and BBQ’ing.
